Home Restoration in Vermont: Water Damage, Fire Damage & Insurance Work

Pro-Tech Contracting provides home restoration services throughout Burlington, Vermont and surrounding counties, specializing in water damage repair, fire damage remediation, insurance restoration, and structural wood rot repair. Vermont homeowners face specific restoration challenges — ice dam water infiltration, spring flooding from snowmelt, and aging barn structures are among the most common. Pro-Tech has completed hundreds of restoration projects across nine Vermont counties since 1993, including full barn conversions such as the Claire Payne Studios restoration in Burlington. We work directly with insurance adjusters, document all damage with written reports and photographs, and ensure all restoration meets current Vermont building codes.

Insurance restoration work requires a contractor who understands the claims process as well as the construction process. Pro-Tech communicates directly with your insurance adjuster throughout the project, provides the documentation required to support your claim, and does not begin work until the scope is clearly defined and approved. If you are at the beginning of the claims process and need damage documentation for your adjuster, we can help assess and photograph the damage before you file. For water damage specifically, we identify and resolve the moisture source before any replacement materials are installed — installing new materials over an unresolved moisture problem is one of the most common and costly mistakes in home restoration.

Restoration Questions & Answers

Click any question to expand the answer.

Do you work directly with insurance companies?

Yes. Pro-Tech Contracting has extensive experience working with insurance claims for water damage, flooding, fire damage, and storm damage. We document the full scope of damage with written reports and photographs, communicate directly with your insurance adjuster throughout the process, and ensure all restoration meets current Vermont building codes. If your claim has already been approved, we can begin work immediately with the approved scope. If you are at the beginning of the claims process, we can help document the damage for your adjuster. Contact us at (802) 318-0205 with your situation and we will walk you through the next steps.

What does water damage restoration involve?

Water damage restoration begins with identifying and resolving the moisture source — a leaking roof, a burst pipe, foundation infiltration, or ice dam water entry. Once the source is confirmed resolved, we remove all damaged materials including wet drywall, insulation, and damaged flooring. Affected framing and structural members are assessed and replaced where necessary. The area is dried and inspected for mold growth before any new materials are installed. Pro-Tech then rebuilds the affected area — new drywall, insulation, flooring, and painting — to match the surrounding space. We include thorough documentation throughout the process for insurance purposes.

Can you restore a Vermont barn?

Yes. Barn restoration is one of Pro-Tech's specialties and represents some of our most complex completed work. Vermont barns present unique structural challenges — often built with rough-sawn timbers, post-and-beam framing, and foundations that have shifted over decades. We assess structural integrity, stabilize the frame where needed, replace rotted sill plates and posts, repair or replace roofing, install new siding, and can convert the interior to living or studio space. Our work on the Claire Payne Studios barn conversion in Burlington is an example of this type of complex historic restoration.

How quickly can you respond to emergency restoration?

For urgent situations such as active flooding, burst pipes, or storm damage, call (802) 318-0205 and flag your message as urgent. Pro-Tech monitors messages for time-sensitive situations and responds same-day. Emergency tarping for roof damage can often be arranged within 24 hours to prevent further water entry while a full repair plan is developed. For non-emergency restoration, our normal response time is within one business day for all inquiries through phone or the contact form.
